Other Info
This sword, signed “Yamato Daijo Fujiwara Kanenori,” was made by the third-generation Kanenori of the Echizen Shimosaka school. During the Kanbun era, he moved from Echizen to Edo, received the honorary title Yamato Daijo, and continued his career there. The Echizen Shimosaka school, headed by Yasutsugu, was one of the leading groups of swordsmiths in Echizen during the Shinto period and produced many accomplished smiths. The jigane is itame with flowing grain. The hamon is a varied gunome-choji midare based on notare, displaying kawazuko-choji, angular elements, tobiyaki, nie-suji, and yo, creating a lively and richly varied tempering pattern. Although the rusting on the nakago is somewhat regrettable, it remains ubu. With a blade length of slightly over 2 shaku 5 sun 2 bu and a well-proportioned sori, the sword has a beautiful and elegant overall shape. This sword passed the NBTHK Hozon Token Shinsa in March 2026.
