| Keishinsai Naomasa was a disciple of Taikei Naotane and served as a swordsmith for the Nakamura Domain in Sōma, Mutsu Province. Extant dated works by him range from Kaei 7 to Meiji 6 (1854–1873). He died in Meiji 12 (1879). This blade bears a tachi-style signature in the manner of earlier masterpieces and is an elegant, graceful work with a blade length of 2 shaku 5 sun (approximately 75.8 cm). It is fitted with a tachi habaki, suggesting that it was originally mounted in a simplified tachi koshirae or a han-tachi koshirae during the late Edo period. The jigane is distinguished by prominent mokume, while the hamon displays a richly varied small gunome-midare incorporating kataochi-style elements, angular yakiba, pointed peaks, and occasional reverse-slanting gunome, with ko-nie and sunagashi, resulting in a highly accomplished work. It has passed the NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token shinsa in 2025. |
