| Bitchū no Kami Tachibana Yasuhiro was a prominent swordsmith of the early Edo period, active around the Kanbun era (1661–1673). Originally from Kii Province, he was the second son of Tosa Shōgen Tameyasu and the younger brother of Mutsu no Kami Tameyasu. Later, many members of the school moved to Osaka, where they played an important role in the prosperity of the Osaka Ishidō school. This sword was originally a long blade of over 81 cm, later shortened by approximately 7.3 cm in order to improve handling and practicality. The result is a classic Kanbun-shintō style uchigatana with a powerful yet refined appearance. The beautifully shortened nakago bears a large and impressive signature reading “Yasuhiro of Kii Province.” The jihada is a tightly forged itame mixed with flowing hada, showing midare-utsuri. The hamon is a nioi-deki gunome-midare with a uniform yakigashira and active ashi and yō throughout, representing a highly characteristic work of the Ishidō school.Passed the December 2025 Hozon Token shinsa. |
