Other Info
This is a matched pair of dai-shō fuchi-kashira depicting a torii gate, cherry blossoms, and a fence. The design likely represents Nonomiya Shrine in Arashiyama, Kyoto, known as the setting of the “Nonomiya” episode in the Tale of Genji (from the “Sakaki” chapter), where Hikaru Genji visits Lady Rokujō. Nonomiya Shrine is famous for its torii—specifically a kuroki torii (unpainted wooden torii)—and for the cherry blossoms that bloom there in spring. The fittings are made of shakudō nanako-ji, decorated with gold and silver iro-e, giving them a brilliant and elegant appearance. The workmanship suggests Kyō-kinkō work. They are preserved in a finely crafted metalwork storage box decorated with an old farmhouse and landscape motif, signed “Yoshimasa koku” (美正刻), which enhances the presentation of the set.Dimensions:Dai – Kashira: 3.31 cm / Fuchi: 3.79 cm / Height: 1.34 cmShō – Kashira: 2.96 cm / Fuchi: 3.42 cm / Height: 1.10 cm
