This fuchi-kashira depicts a dragon emerging from a spray of water. The Goto Seijyo [後藤清乗] lineage continued seven generations, from the first, born in early Edo period to the last seven generations at the Bakumatsu period. The first was the second son of Goto Ritsujo [後藤立乗]. He lived in Shitaya, Edo, and was known as "Shitaya Goto [下谷後藤]," resulting in his prosperity. It is said to be difficult to determine the generation, but the condition of the shakudo suggests this work dates to the mid-Edo period. It passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2012. |
