The theme of this same themed Kozuka and Menuki (Futotokoro Mono) is Goat and Japanese Fatsia. Goat symbolizes fertility and surviving under difficult situations. The Japanese Fatsia is planted as a charm against evil spirits. This combination means prosperity of family and descendants. The craftsman, Horie Okinari, weas a disciple of Hamano Shozui. After his teacher passed away, he became a disciple of Omori Teruhide. After becoming independent, he became an official worker of the Hachisuka Daimyo Family from Awa Province. He lived in Edoyashiki, the Hachisuka family home in Edo. There he taught many disciples. He was a top ranked craftsman during the mid Edo Period. This Futotokoro Mono depicts Goat and Japanese Fatsia and was skillfully crafted using gold to give the design a brilliant appearance.
