This kozuka depicts a landscape called Kouten Bosetsu. Kouten Bosetsu is a beautiful scene of snow falling on a river at dusk with the vast sky (Kouten) spreading out above it (from one of the Eight Views of Xiao-Xiang) in Hunan Province, China. This work depicts Kouten Bosetsu using the damascening technique on a fine ishime shakudo surface. The back plate is sogitsuge technique consists of shakudo part and gold part. "Kouten Bosetsu" is inlaid in gold in cursive script on a polished shakudo surface, and "Masanobu's signature" is engraved on the gold in the shigure file surface . Masanobu is a craftsman active during late Edo Period in Edo, Musashi Province. It has passed Hozon Tosogu Shinsa in 2021. |
