The theme of this pair of Menuki is Pigeon. Pigeon symbolize peace and also is a servant of the Hachiman Shrine. This Hachiman shrine is a god of war. For this reason, some of the Samurai families used Pigeon as a family crest. Pigeons also have homing instincts and was used for communication in the old days. So Pigeons are close animals to humans. This pair of Menuki depicts the Pigeon's feathers elaborately using the fine Kebori technique, and effective gold and silver Iroe technique. It is Mumei but has been attributed to the Kaga-goto Tradition.
